Free Enneagram Test: Your Type, Wing, Tri-Type, and Growth Path

Most free Enneagram tests give you a number and a paragraph. Type 4, The Individualist. Here's what that means. Good luck.

Depth Profile goes deeper. Our 45-question Enneagram assessment scores all nine types, identifies your wing (the adjacent type that colors your core), calculates your tri-type (one type per intelligence center), and maps your growth and stress arrows — the types you move toward under pressure and during personal growth.

Then it shows you how your Enneagram type interacts with your Big Five scores, attachment style, conflict style, and 24 other frameworks. Because a Type 4 with secure attachment lives a very different life than a Type 4 with anxious attachment.

What You Get From Our Enneagram Assessment

  • Core type (1-9) — scored from 45 dedicated questions, not approximated from other tests
  • Wing — the highest-scoring adjacent type that influences your core
  • Tri-type — your dominant type in each center: Gut (8, 9, 1), Heart (2, 3, 4), Head (5, 6, 7)
  • Dominant center — which intelligence center drives you: Gut (instinct), Heart (emotion), or Head (thinking)
  • Growth arrow — the type you integrate toward when healthy
  • Stress arrow — the type you disintegrate toward under pressure
  • Score distribution — see how you score on all 9 types (0-100 scale)

Why Wings and Tri-Types Matter

Your core type is your home base. Your wing adds flavor. A 4w3 (Individualist with Achiever wing) is ambitious and image-conscious. A 4w5 (Individualist with Investigator wing) is more withdrawn and cerebral. Same core, very different presentation.

Tri-type goes further. You have a dominant type in each of the three intelligence centers (Gut, Heart, Head). Your tri-type is the combination of all three — like 4-6-9 or 8-3-5. There are 27 possible tri-types, and each creates a distinct personality flavor.

Example: A tri-type of 8-2-5 (Challenger + Helper + Investigator) creates someone who is protective, generous with their inner circle, and intellectually independent. Compare that to 8-3-7 (Challenger + Achiever + Enthusiast) — someone who is dominant, success-driven, and always chasing the next experience. Both lead with Type 8 energy, but the combination creates entirely different people.

Growth and Stress Arrows: Your Development Map

The Enneagram isn't static. Each type has a growth direction (integration) and a stress direction(disintegration):

  • Type 1 → 7 (growth) / 4 (stress)
  • Type 2 → 4 (growth) / 8 (stress)
  • Type 3 → 6 (growth) / 9 (stress)
  • Type 4 → 1 (growth) / 2 (stress)
  • Type 5 → 8 (growth) / 7 (stress)
  • Type 6 → 9 (growth) / 3 (stress)
  • Type 7 → 5 (growth) / 1 (stress)
  • Type 8 → 2 (growth) / 5 (stress)
  • Type 9 → 3 (growth) / 6 (stress)

When a Type 5 is growing, they take on the positive qualities of Type 8 — becoming more assertive, grounded, and willing to engage with the world. Under stress, they scatter into Type 7 energy — overcommitting, seeking distraction, avoiding depth.

Depth Profile shows your growth and stress arrows alongside your current state, so you can see where you are on the path and what healthy development looks like for your specific type.

Enneagram + Big Five: The Compound Insight

Here's where Depth Profile goes beyond any standalone Enneagram test. When you take both the Enneagram and Big Five assessments, the meta-analysis reveals compound patterns:

Type 3 (Achiever) + High Agreeableness

Achieves through collaboration and consensus-building. Gets promoted by making everyone around them better. Risk: loses their own identity in the pursuit of others' approval.

Type 3 (Achiever) + Low Agreeableness

Achieves through competition and individual excellence. Doesn't need to be liked — needs to win. Risk: burns relationships on the way up and finds the top lonely.

Same Enneagram type. Completely different life strategy. The Big Five dimension reveals which version you actually are.

FAQ

Is this the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI)?

No. The RHETI is a commercial instrument developed by the Enneagram Institute. Depth Profile uses an independent 45-question assessment that scores all nine types. We use the traditional Enneagram framework (types, wings, tri-types, growth/stress arrows) but our questions are original.

How is this different from Truity or Personality Path?

Two key differences: (1) We score your wing, tri-type, and growth/stress arrows — not just your core type. (2) We combine your Enneagram results with 27 other frameworks to show compound patterns. No standalone Enneagram test can tell you how your type interacts with your attachment style, conflict approach, or creative process.

Can I retake the Enneagram part without redoing everything?

Currently, each assessment session includes whatever pathways you select. Retake functionality (tracking your type over time) is coming with the Growth Membership tier.
